The climate of Portugal is temperate and influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. In the north, the climate is cool and rainy, while moving south it becomes gradually warmer and sunnier; in the far south, the region of Algarve has a dry and sunny microclimate. In the interior, on the border with Spain, the climate is a bit more continental.

Portuguese cuisine is very diverse. The Portuguese consume a lot of dry cod, for which there are hundreds of recipes. Typical Portuguese meat recipes are made of beef, pork, lamb, goat or chicken and include “portuguese stew”, “bean stew”, “chanfana”, etc. A very popular northern dish is “dobrada”, a tripe with white beans and carrots stew, often served with steamed white rice.
Typical fast food dishes include the Francesinha (Frenchie) from Porto, and grilled pork or beef sandwiches, which are well known around the country.
